Although I usually prefer to stay behind the camera, I wanted to share this photo of a big Brazos beauty, which I caught in some shallows below Whitney a few weeks ago. I’d been looking for an opportunity to take a nice bass photo in my Ride 135, which along with Dan’s Cuda 12, were provided to us by Mountain Sports (after we lost our boats in the flood last year). I wanted to show my appreciation for their support over the last 12 months, by getting a solid fish porn pic for the Mountain Sports Facebook page.
That’s where Dan comes in. When he realized I had a good sized fish on, Dan reeled in quickly, dropped his rod into his ‘yak and went for his camera, which was in a Pelican strapped to the bow of his boat. I got the fish in quickly, and saw that Dan was still unstrapping the case, so I knelt in the shallows and held the fish under water until Dan could get set up for the shot.
Once he was in place, I lifted the fish out of the water, and Dan snapped the photo. I thought it was pretty cool how he managed to capture the water flowing from my hands. Even better, the Mountain Sports logo made it into the frame nicely. The large mouth was gently released back into the shallows where she quickly made her way back into deeper water.
